The Museum in Docklands unlocks the history of the River Thames and London as a port, as well as the colourful people that have lived and worked in the Docklands area over the years – you can access it for free with London Pass (normal price of an adult ticket is £5).
Housed in a spectacular early nineteenth century warehouse at West India Quay in the heart of London Docklands, the Docklands provide a tantalising glimpse into a lost and largely forgotten world.
Originally used to house imports of exotic spices, rum, and cotton transported from all over the world to London, the Docklands museum holds a wealth of items relating both to maritime trade and the history of this unique part of the city, from enormous whale bones to WWII gas masks.
The Docklands Museum features a permanent gallery exploring the city’s relationship with the transatlantic slave trade – the only London museum carrying a permanent exhibition of this kind. This London attraction also has a popular bar and regularly runs special events.
Using our London Planner, it’s easy to put together your ideal London sightseeing trip – a visit to the Museum in Docklands could be combined with London museums such as the Fan Museum or the Firepower Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich. Entry to all these London museums – and many more throughout the capital – is free with London Pass.
