As one of the most famous London Art Galleries, The Courtauld Gallery was founded upon "the wish to expand the understanding of the visual arts in this country" and houses some of Britain's best-loved artworks including world famous Old Masters, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, together with sculptures and applied arts. The Courtauld Gallery is located directly in the heart of the Courtauld Institute of Art, which is one of the world's leading centres of art and history.
This famous London attraction originated in Portman Square and is now housed in Somerset House. As famous for its students as for its collections, it is now entirely self-governed having being previously affiliated with the Senate House of the University.
