Manhattan, New York City

On Manhattan island there are dozens of neighborhoods throughout the tiny island. To make things a bit easier for the every traveller, there are three divisions in Manhattan:



Midtown Manhattan


Starting with the most influential part of the city, Midtown Manhattan is the main attraction of New York with its exciting fast lane atmosphere. These areas of New York are the touristic and entertainment areas of the city. At every corner, on every street there is a subway station offering transportation all throughout New York City. The hustle and bustle of the crowded streets in New York maximizes the intensity of the huge city!

Attractions in Midtown Manhattan
Before you know it, a day in Midtown Manhattan will pass like a breeze. Midtown Manhattan offers great areas such as Rockefeller Center, Madison Square Garden, and the famous Times Square!

Rockefeller Center and Madison Square are large plazas that bring together people from all over the world. Offering ice rinks and a massive Christmas tree during the holiday season, Rockefeller Plaza is the best place to be. The plaza also works as the headquarters for many broadcasting companies and morning shows. Be a member of the audience in Rockefeller Center! Madison Square is the place to be for many of New York’s headlining concerts including Bon Jovi, U2, Coldplay, and Kanye West.

Times Square, sometimes called the “Cross Roads of the World”, is the main attraction of New York! Formerly the New York Times headquarters hence its name, Times Square is filled with the gigantic digital advertisements across the high rises and skyscrapers, leaving you will be overwhelmed by the bright, beaming lights!

And with Broadway just around the corner, be sure to catch some of the greatest theatrical shows ever made!

Uptown Manhattan

Uptown Manhattan offers a variety of different neighborhoods that are affiliated with the residential side of New York City. The most famous of which are the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side, and Harlem.

Upper East Side
The Upper East Side of Manhattan is the area between Central Park and the East River. This area is home to many of New York City’s elite in the business world and Wall Street. Some of the most famous people have lived in this area including the Rockefeller family and the Roosevelt’s.

Upper West Side
The Upper West Side is home to many of the more artistic and cultural Manhattan dwellers. In this neighborhood there are many things to see and do including the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, and the Julliard School of Music. For a bite to eat, the Upper West Side has much to offer with cafes and restaurants along many streets. This area of Manhattan has also been home to many celebrities including John Lennon.

Harlem
Harlem including Spanish Harlem is one of the most culturally diverse areas of Manhattan. Not only are there so many cultures but there is a great focus on music, mainly jazz and rhythm and blues. This area offers many great places to see like the Apollo which is known for its display of new and upcoming young talent. More to see in Harlem is the famous Harlem Globetrotters with their slick moves in basketball.

Downtown Manhattan, New York City

Lastly Downtown Manhattan is a compilation of all types. Downtown Manhattan offers such neighborhoods as the Financial District, Greenwich Village, and Battery Park.

Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village is mainly a residential area of New York City hosting to many major universities including the New York University. This area promotes a bohemian, relaxed feel opposed to the up-beat pace through most of New York. There are many restaurants, café’s and a lively nightlife in the area of Manhattan.

Wall Street and the Financial District
Wall Street in the Financial District, is known as the financial capital of the world. It would be fascinating to see NYC in a different light. With the many business men and women working in this fast paced atmosphere.

Battery City
Not far away is Battery City, offering ferry ports to Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty
